Innocent spectators attending a major sporting event are killed, maimed, injured and horribly traumatized. Another incident of senseless violence and death, perpetrated by inhumane individuals.

This horrid event at the Boston Marathon stands as yet another murderous marker that illustrates the depravity in our society today. At what point do we, as a nation, come to realize that our "social networks" and sources of immediate gratification have erased our caring for one another, which we've exchanged for a callous disregard for anyone who thinks and feels differently than we do?

I sadly reflect upon the shootings at Columbine, Sandy Hook, the bombing of Oklahoma City's Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building — images of so many lives brutally snatched by others who did not even know their names!

We must invest the time, financial resources and legislative directives necessary to insure that these heinous crimes cease once and for all.

The next time you tweet or Facebook someone, start with saying, "I hope you are well and doing good things for others."
