Orem police say an employee of a music store has been arrested in connection with the theft of 31 instruments valued at more than $25,000.
Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez said Thursday that the 19-year-old woman was arrested this week after investigators connected her to an eBay listing offering a trumpet for sale. Detectives learned the seller was an employee of the Summerhays Music store at 1006 S. State St., which had reported the instrument thefts on March 1.
Detectives studying the eBay listing’s photograph of the trumpet matched its serial number to one of the stolen instruments. A search warrant was obtained and a raid on the suspect’s home turned up the trumpet and 11 other stolen instruments.
The instruments have been returned to Summerhays. What became of the remaining 19 stolen instruments was not immediately determined.
The woman was booked into Utah County jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property, a second-degree felony. She was being held on $5,000 bail.
