Sandy police look for man, woman in gunfire-punctuated hotel robbery
Police were looking for a man and woman suspected in an armed robbery and assault early Thursday morning at a Sandy hotel.
Officers responded to a 5:21 a.m. 911 call from the front desk reporting there had been a holdup at the Extended Stay America, near 7500 South and Union Park Avenue.
Lt. Victor Quezada said the incident began when a woman in her early 30s came to the hotel to meet a man for reasons that initially remained unclear. The man opened the door of his room and began to hit the woman, and that was when another woman inside the room joined in the attack.
Together, the suspects pulled the victim inside the room, and the female suspect pulled out a handgun and fired once at the victim's head, missing her.
The suspects then allegedly fled with the first woman's purse and cell phone, getting into a white Ford pickup truck with a silver-colored tool box in the bed. The truck had an Ohio licence plate reading "PHR1438."
"The victim then chased the truck and jumped into the bed. The female suspect saw her and shot twice more at her. The male suspect stopped the truck, got out and punched her a couple times and then got back behind the wheel and started to leave again," Quezada said.
As the truck moved away, the bloodied victim jumped out of the vehicle. She later was treated at the scene for multiple cuts and bruises, a bloody nose and chipped tooth, but was not transported to the hospital.
Witnesses described the female suspect as Polynesian, 5-foot-2, about 125 pounds and in her mid-20s. She was wearing a striped shirt and blue jeans. The male suspect was white, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and with multiple tattoos and brown hair in a "buzz cut," wearing a white T-shirt under a black puffy vest and a black cap on backwards, Quezada said.
Anyone who spots the vehicle or suspects is asked to immediately call Sandy police at 801-568-7200.
