2 fires contained in Uintah County, third under way
Firefighters had contained two Uintah County fires one which scorched more than 300 acres on Saturday evening, just as a third, new fire was ignited southwest of Vernal.
Both the Hayden and Easter Eve fires were controlled burns on private land, which got out of control Saturday afternoon after high winds moved through the Uintah Basin. Both were contained by about 8:30 p.m., Cheryl Nelsen of the Uintah Basin Fire Center in Vernal said.
The Hayden Fire had burned more than 320 acres of brush and grass west of Vernal, and the Easter Eve fire burned about nine acres to the south near Horseshoe Bend along the Green River.
Neither fired destroyed any structures and no injuries were reported.
The third fire was reported near Randlett, southwest of Vernal, about 8:15 p.m., she said. The cause of that fire was unknown.
Volunteer fire crews from the area were shifting away from the extinguished blazes to fight the new fire, Nelson said.
