Provo • Should 6-foot-9 forward Brandon Davies be considered one of the 10 best players in BYU basketball history?

That's the debate that has raged among BYU fans this season, as the senior from nearby Provo High has gone about wrapping up his oft-scrutinized career wearing the Cougar blue.

Monday, as the Cougars crushed Mercer 90-71 in a National Invitation Tournament second-round game, Davies left fans with one last memorable performance.

Davies finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds for the 10th double-double this season and 23rd time in his career. He now has 1,655 career points, passing Ken Roberts for 10th place on the school's career scoring list.

"I played my hardest because I know it could have been my last game at home, so I wanted to leave it all on the court," Davies said after going 10 for 11 from the free-throw line and also contributing three assists and two steals.

"Nobody on this team wants to be done yet. We're just rolling right now and playing for one more game."

That one more game will be in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Wednesday night against Southern Miss, so Davies really did play his final game in the Marriott Center. Davies ranks seventh in school history in rebounding, fifth in blocked shots and ninth in steals.

Brock Zylstra and Craig Cusick also gave the fans nice games by which to remember them, with Zylstra scoring 14 points and Cusick handing out three assists.

"We played with a lot of heart and passion," BYU coach Dave Rose said. "That gets us excited as a staff to see that in our guys."

And Davies led the way.
