Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune Deena Marie Manzanares combines spring's hottest color — mint green — with a dark-colored maxi skirt ($59). Striped top (29.50) at Macy's. Target mint oxford shoe ($19.99).

Get your spring wardrobe in mint condition by adding this season’s coolest color — mint green.

“Color is the big thing for spring,” says Terri Kay, the sales manager at Macy’s Southtowne Mall. From clothing and shoes to jewelry and nail polish, mint green is everywhere.

Flattering for most skin types, mint green also is a wear-with-everything color. Here are some examples.

Pastel and floral • Pale pastels for spring is usually a given, but when mixed and matched well, the result can be much more than looking like a basket of Easter eggs. Kay says pink and peach are especially popular to pair with mint green, but all sherbet pastels — yellow, blue, lavender — will work. The soft hues evoke a vintage vibe that can be toughened up with a denim or biker jacket. Adding a printed piece with darker colors — such as a floral blouse over mint skinny jeans — keeps the look from going too sweet.

Black and navy • Color blocking with black or navy makes a statement. Black anchors and balances the pale mint shade and lets the color stand out. A great alternative to black is navy. Get noticed with a vivid minty green-and-navy-striped blouse. Paired with a flowy maxi skirt, it is preppy and confident. Finish with cool oxfords or sneakers for a sporty take.

Brown and neutral • Chocolate is a great flavor with mint. Any shade of brown, tan or neutral tone will complement. Taupe ankle boots pair perfectly with a mint lace sundress, making it casual and understated. Spring is about texture, said Kay; look for embellishments including studs, crochet and lace, especially on shoes and boots. No need to overaccessorize the embellished pieces. Let the texture talk.

Bold and bright • Bring on the vivid pigments for bold and bright looks. Particularly hot pink will make the mint pop, or try a dark indigo denim. Colored skinny jeans, ankle length or right above, are on trend for spring and summer. Pumps (popular in every color) and a snakeskin satchel dress up a look, while a messenger bag and flats will dress it down.

White, gold and silver • Crisp and clean looks call for white or cream; white is always right for spring. Neutralize the heat with cool mint accessories. A statement necklace or chandelier earrings can add sophistication or edge to casual attire. The warmth of gold-tone jewelry will offset the coolness of mint, while silver reinforces its freshness. The final finishing touch is a minty manicure.
