St. Patrick’s Day parade: Ready to put on the green

Downtown Salt Lake City goes green this weekend for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, sponsored by the Hibernian Society of Utah. The parade route is shown in the accompanying map. Here is a look at the parade by the numbers:

16 •The parade is on Saturday, March 16 — the day before St. Patrick’s Day.

10 •Official start time is 10 a.m.

400 • It begins at the intersection of 400 West and 200 North; proceeds south on 400 West and then south through The Gateway, a distance of just less than a mile. It will conclude at the south end of the shopping center.

35 •This year marks the 35th time the parade has been held in Salt Lake City.

2 •The number of grand marshals — Todd and Rosalie Neville are longtime members of the Hibernian Society of Utah.

3 • Alliterative words in the this year’s parade theme — Shamrocks, Shillelaghs & Shenanigans

57 •Saturday’s forecast temperature — with just a 10 percent chance of rain.

1 •One really big party — or Siamsa — after the parade. Irish food, drink and entertainment in the Grand Hall at the Union Pacific Depot. Doors open at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 16.

17 •On Sunday, March 17, at 5 p.m., there will be a Mass in honor of St. Patrick at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 7405 Redwood Road, West Jordan. A corned-beef and cabbage dinner, along with Irish entertainment, follows.
