State colleges: Braden Anderson leads Utah baseball over Northern Illinois

Minneapolis • Braden Anderson had two hits and two RBIs to lead Utah over Northern Illinois 6-1 in college baseball Friday.

Brock Duke allowed five hits while striking out five in six innings for his second win of the season for the Utes (5-3).

BYU 9-1, Creighton 0-5 • In St. George, the Cougars split a doubleheader, winning the first game 9-0 and losing the second 5-1.

Desmond Poulson allowed five hits while striking out six in eight innings during Game 1. Adam Law had a double, triple and an RBI, and Brock Whitney was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Cougars (6-6).

Softball

BYU 8, Boise State 1; Fresno State 5, BYU 4 • Tori Almond pitched a three-hitter against Boise State, but the Cougars (6-12) gave up a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning against Fresno State during the San Diego Classic.
