Provo police have arrested a woman whose vehicle struck a cyclist in Provo on Friday, pushing him onto nearby train tracks just before he was fatally struck by a FrontRunner train.

Maria Fregoso-Avina, 49, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of negligent homicide. Police say she was driving her sport utility vehicle with frost covering her windshield when she struck 69-year-old Douglas Crow, who worked as a custodian at Brigham Young University.

Police Lt. Matthew Siufanua said on the day of the collision that Avina pulled over after the collision and saw the barrier arms on the tracks come down.

“[The victim] was dazed and moving, but was then hit by the train,” Siufanua said Friday.

Crow died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

Police also accused Avina of improper lookout and driving with an obstructed windshield.
