A TRAX train collided with an SUV near the light rail station in Murray Tuesday morning, but the car’s driver escaped serious injury.

The 8:13 a.m. accident occurred at 5900 South and delayed both the Blue and Red lines for about 90 minutes, said Utah Transit Authority spokesman Chad Saley.

The male driver of the SUV allegedly made an illegal left turn into the train’s path, ignoring a red arrow signal, Saley said. The train struck the car, pushing it a short distance down the track.

The driver was able to get himself out of his vehicle and was walking around when Murray Fire Department paramedics arrived. He was taken to the hospital for a precautionary examination and treatment of a head cut, Saley said.

While UTA and police investigated and the wreckage was cleared, UTA implemented a “bus bridge” service around the accident site for the train’s northbound commuters.

No citations were immediately issued as the accident remained under investigation.
