Utahns donate 2.8 million pounds of holiday food
The Utah Food Bank announced Monday that 2,865,697 pounds of groceries were donated during the recent holiday season.
This abundance will provide more than 2.2 million meals to Utahns in need, a statement said.
"The generosity we've seen this year is inspiring," said Ginette Bott, chief marketing officer for the Utah Food Bank. "With roughly 472,000 Utahns at risk for missing one meal every day, we are so appreciative of the efforts that families, businesses and communities make to fight hunger in Utah."
Several businesses sponsored the Holiday Food Drive, including Cherry Creek Radio, RC Willey, Riverton Motors Group, Siegfried & Jensen, Smith's Food & Drug Stores and Wells Fargo. More than 400 community groups statewide also participated in the effort that supports 129 food banks throughout Utah.
