Last week, The Salt Lake Tribune featured a dozen of Utah's favorite "Signature Soups." But we know there's more out there, so we asked readers for more of their favorites. Here are some recommendations:

Chinese New Year

Celebrate Chinese New Year, and the Year of the Snake, at the Mandarin now through Saturday, Feb. 23. In addition to its regular menu, the Bountiful restaurant is offering a special menu for parties for four or more for $20 per person. Menu includes wonton, egg roll, soup, Hunan beef, satay pork noodle, honey walnut chicken, coconut Thai shrimp and a trio of homemade ice cream, in passion fruit, lychee and Saigon cinnamon flavors. The traditional Lion's Dance will be performed on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Reservations accepted for parties of 8 or more people, while smaller groups may call ahead to be added to the waiting list. Seasonal cooking

Local cook Brook Cordray will talk about what's in season and how to prepare it, while the class will enjoy a meal they have prepared together and receive recipes to take home. The workshop is sponsored by Wasatch Community Gardens and Slow Food Utah.

Italian bubbly

The Adami family has been making sparkling wines from the Prosecco grape for nearly 100 years. Learn more about this legendary Italian producer during a special wine dinner, featuring eight different plates, paired with four different Adami wines.

Park City cooking school opens

Toba Garrett, one of the world's top cake decorators, will lead six days of classes at the recently opened Park City Culinary Institute. The new school offers professional and recreational courses for cooks. Classes include:

Free-hand and classical drapery • Saturday, Feb. 23, 9:30 am to 1:30 p.m.; tuition $195.

Marzipan fruit • Saturday, Feb. 23, 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.; tuition $195.

Sugarcraft flowers • Sunday, Feb. 24, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; tuition $385.

Australian string work • Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 25-26, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; tuition $750.

Wedding dress cake • Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 27-28, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; tuition $750.

New Ichiban chef

Salt Lake City's Ichiban restaurant has hired Thomas Ontko as its new executive sushi chef. For the past 10 years, Ontko has been the lead sushi chef at the Four Seasons Resort in Jackson, Wyo. Ontko has already added several new items to Ichiban's sushi menu, including the "Dreams of Spring Roll" with grilled asparagus, white pepper seared Walu, and truffled ponzu. He also has introduced an Izakaya or Japanese pub food menu that includes Korean-style chicken wings, and steamed Asian buns with five-spice braised pork. Ichiban, which is owned by the Watkins Restaurant Group, is located at 336 S. 400 East, Salt Lake City.
