HOV lanes and smog
Re "Utah panel backs express-lane limits" (Tribune, Jan. 30):
When reading that our Legislature is considering capping the number of hybrid and other clean-fuel vehicles with solo drivers that may use the carpool lanes, I wondered why instead we don't cap the number of solo-driver vehicles who pay for the privilege to drive in HOV lanes. Especially with the terrible pollution inversion we just had, we want to encourage clean-fuel vehicles.
Then I noticed the adjacent article ("House backs new policy on expenses") where legislators want an extra $150,000 for a salary increase. Now I know why they don't want to cut revenues. Once again, they are looking out for themselves, not us.
