The speedskaters who will represent the United States at the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia will be determined at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns.

U.S. Speedskating announced Wednesday that the oval has been selected as the site of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Trials in both long- and short-track speedskating. The long-track trials will take place from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1, 2014, while the short-track trials will follow from Jan. 2-5.

"Having hosted the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, we know fans in Utah will come out to support our athletes as they vie for a spot on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team," federation executive director Mark Greenwald said in a statement.

As many as 12 short-track skaters and 20 long-track skaters will be selected for the Olympic team, ahead of the Sochi Olympics that run from Feb. 7-23. The trials will be televised on the NBC family of networks, U.S. Speedskating said.

"I'm very happy that Olympic trials will be at the Utah Olympic Oval," short-track Olympian J.R. Celski said. "This is where most of the short- and long-track athletes in the USA train throughout the season, so the 'home' factor definitely comes into play. Definitely will be a fun and exciting event on the road to Sochi."
