Pullman, Wash. • Utah is doing a stellar job on Washington State’s Brock Motum, the second-leading scorer in the Pac-12 Conference.
It’s everyone else that’s giving the Utes headaches.
Utah trails the Cougars 34-26 at halftime, threatening to lose its fifth consecutive league game if things don’t turn around. In doing so, WSU has hit seven 3-point attempts, scorching the nets from distance and stretching Utah’s perimeter defense.
If not for freshman Brandon Taylor, this would be a much uglier game. The skinny point guard scored 10 points in the final eight minutes of the first half, carrying the Utes unexpectedly when other offensive prospects seem dim.
Utah struggled to score for a large part of the first half, but registered the last four points to close within striking distance.
