Saratoga Springs • No landowners showed up to protest or express approval for the city to adjust its boundaries with the neighboring city of Lehi on Tuesday night — that’s because the only landowner was the city.
The anomaly in question was a peninsula parcel of land on State Road 73 and part of 400 East that Saratoga Springs already owned. The parcel fell within Lehi’s city boundaries on its Main Street. The Saratoga Springs City Council approved the jurisdictional transfer.
To straighten up the boundaries, a Saratoga Springs staff report said “it is preferable to have these portions in the city limits. Lehi City has expressed a willingness to allow this.”
Saratoga Springs was granted ownership of the area, that is basically just part of S.R. 73 and access to the road, by the Utah Department of Transportation about a year ago when Pioneer Crossing became the new main thoroughfare.
City Manager Mark Christensen said it was one of those things that just didn’t make sense to have in Lehi’s jurisdiction.
“It is just one of those kind of things where we were just trying to clean up the boundaries,” he said after the meeting.
Saratoga Springs didn’t realize the small Lehi land peninsula even existed until midway through last year.
“We were checking records with the county on a completely separate issue, probably six months ago, and that is when it came to light that that little island, peninsula [of land] didn’t match what our records showed,” Christensen said.
The City Council also approved a deal where a developer would swap a 9-foot-wide sliver of land near Jordan Ridge Boulevard in exchange for the city giving the developer access rights to build a road in the same area.
