Other than the ominous music, there’s not much in the teaser trailer for “Blue Caprice” to hint at how controversial this movie — premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival — will likely be.

It’s just a long shot following the car of the title. But that car has a horrific place in the recent history of Washington, D.C., as it belonged to John Allan Muhammad, the notorious “Beltway Sniper.”

Here’s the synopsis of the film from Sundance: “An abandoned boy is lured to America and drawn into the shadow of a dangerous father figure in this film inspired by the real life events that led to the 2002 Beltway sniper attacks.”

The cast may be the most star-studded of the Next program: Isaiah Washington (formerly of “Gray’s Anatomy”) as Muhammad, Tequan Richmond (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as the boy Lee Boyd Malvo, and Tim Blake Nelson, Joey Lauren Adams and Leo Fitzpatrick.

“Blue Caprice” premieres in the Next section of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
