Pugnacious Sen. Lee

Sen. Mike Lee's first major legislative achievement has been to defeat a treaty that would protect disabled Americans traveling or living abroad ("Hatch, Lee praise U.N. treaty rejection," Tribune, Dec. 5).

The senator's defense in getting the Senate to reject a United Nations treaty on the rights of disabled people was that the treaty's specific wording might threaten parental authority is obtuse and more suitable for a cunning law student, not a statesman.

Lee's pugnacious obstruction is obnoxious.

I hope disabled Americans abroad who are injured or worse remember that their plight was aggravated by that young man from Utah with the big suit and the Ernie Douglas haircut.
