The 18th annual Candy Cane Corner holiday store has opened for low-income families and individuals participating in programs at The Road Home, Volunteers of America Utah and the YWCA.

The store, run by volunteers, provides the opportunity for parents and others to select new gifts that have been donated by the community.

Throughout December, they may visit Candy Cane Corner with a case manager to select gifts for their children and themselves. In addition to new toys, clothing and housewares, Candy Cane Corner provides wrapping paper, ribbons and tape to complete the holiday gift-giving experience.

Last year, Candy Cane Corner served more than 2,000 people, including 1,200 children.

Donations will be accepted through Dec. 23 at the site of Candy Cane Corner, the former SDI Building, just behind The Road Home at 502 W. 300 South in Salt Lake City. Drop-off times are noon to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m., Saturday or Sunday.

Items needed most include new clothing, shoes and boots for adults and children, blankets and other household items, and nonviolent toys and games for children and teens. Sponsors are also grateful to receive cash donations and gift cards to purchase other needed items.
