Sex offender arrested after grabbing 11-year-old dancer
Sandy police have arrested a convicted sex offender suspected of grabbing an 11-year-old girl after a performance by her dance group Friday.
A woman saw 47-year-old Christopher Rebstock of Salt Lake City near a group of dancers and their parents at the Festival of Trees in Sandy, said police Sgt. Jon Arnold.
"He kind of stood out because they were all parents with their kids," Arnold said. She saw Rebstock brush by the girl and grab her buttocks, Arnold said. The woman talked to the girl and confirmed what had happened, then reported it to security at South Towne Exposition Center. Rebstock tried to run when security guards approached, but they caught him and turned him over to police.
Sandy police aren't aware of any additional victims, but Arnold asked people to call police at 801-840-4000 to report any other assaults.
In 2001, Rebstock pleaded guilty to first-degree felony attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child in connection with a September 2000 episode involving a 4-year-old boy in Salt Lake City.
He was sentenced to three years to life in prison and placed on Utah's sex offender registry following his release on parole in March 2009.
