Utah football: Arizona leads Utes 17-14 at half
Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey is having another big night, but the Utah Utes are playing Arizona close, trailing the Wildcats 17-14 at the half Saturday.
The Utes cut Arizona's lead to three when tight end Jake Murphy caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Travis Wilson in the closing minutes of the half.
Carey, who rushed for a Pac-12 record 366 yards against Colorado a week ago, has 110 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
Utah running back John White has 16 carries for 67 yards.
Both teams had crucial turnovers in the half. Wilson fumbled on Utah's 36-yard line. Arizona capitalized on that turnover when Matt Scott rushed for a 10-yard touchdown.
Scott fumbled on Utah's 7-yard line, and the ball was recovered by Utah's Nate Fakahafua in the final minute of the half.
The game had one of the oddest first quarters the first three drives all ended on failed fourth-down conversions.
After Arizona scored first with a 44-yard field goal, the Utes used a faked field goal to earn a brief 7-3 advantage when kicker Coleman Petersen scored on a 3-yard run.
Scott is 8 of 18 for 103 yards, while Wilson is 11 of 15 for 133 yards.
