Utah will honor seniors Saturday
The Utes will say goodbye to 25 seniors Saturday in a pre-game ceremony. The class has a 32-17 record and has played in three bowl games, but coach Kyle Whittingham said this week the biggest accomplishment was 18 of them are on track to graduate next month.
"That is phenomenal," he said. "We've never had that kind of academic thing happen and it's a tribute to the seniors' work ethic off the field and everything they've done in their time here. "It's a high-water mark for us."
The players who will be honored are linebacker Boo Andersen, offensive lineman Sam Brenner, receiver DeVonte Christopher, receiver Reggie Dunn, linebacker Dave Fagergren, defensive end Lorenzo Ford, snapper Patrick Greene, quarterback Jon Hays, defensive tackle Dave Kruger, defensive back Ryan Lacy, defensive back Moe Lee, defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, offensive lineman Miles Mason, receiver Luke Matthews, fullback Max Moala, tight end Kendrick Moeai, defensive tackle Joape Pela, kicker Coleman Petersen, tight end Dallin Rogers, tight end David Rolf, punter Sean Sellwood, offensive lineman Tevita Stevens, defensive back Reggie Topps, defensive back Lewis Walker and running back John White.
Stevens, Kruger, Matthews, Sellwood and Greene are all 4-year starters.
There are a lot of familiar names in that group and as Kruger said earlier this week, time has flown by for the seniors.
"For this to be my last game in that stadium, it's tripping me out, it's weird," he said.
Congrats to them for the academic work as well as the success on the field. They don't want to be known as the senior class that didn't go to a bowl game.
I'm convinced they find a way to win Saturday.
