Provo police to sponsor workshop on sexual violence

The Provo Police Department on Thursday is hosting an educational seminar called "Sexual Violence 101."

The seminar will focus on how community professionals including, police, victim advocates, therapists, and medical professionals coordinate to respond to and prevent sexual violence.

Topics will include how police investigate sexual assaults, victim advocacy, therapy for survivors of sexual violence, and forensic medical issues related to these crimes.

Those who attend also will receive information about crime reporting, community resources, confidentiality issues and personal safety tips.

The seminar is free and open to the public.

Presenters include Detective Brian Taylor, Provo Victim Advocate Vicky Proctor, IHC forensic nurse practitioner Sue Chasson and Mindy Woodhouse, a therapist from the Center for Women and Children in Crisis.

The seminar is from 5-8 p.m. at the Marriot Hotel Conference Room, 101 W. 100 North, Provo.
