Make all votes count

As I hear analyses of how President Barack Obama swept the battleground states, I am impressed how his team targeted Hispanic and women voters to get the bare majority. Well done!

But shouldn't all states be "battlegrounds" for citizens' votes? If we replaced the Electoral College with a national direct election, presidential candidates wouldn't be just going after women in nine states, but in all 50 states.

Heck, Romney would have even campaigned here in rock-red Republican Utah, trying to get more of those white males out to the polls.

A national election would galvanize get-out-the-vote campaigns everywhere, not just in battleground states. As Martha Stewart says, that is a good thing.
