Ever since East High product Parker Van Dyke commited to Utah, it was all but set that he would embark on an LDS Church Mission before enrolling in school.

Those plans may change.

Nothing is certain, but Van Dyke may play his freshman season before leaving for a mission.

"We've talked about it," Van Dyke told The Salt Lake Tribune. "At the end of the day, we will do what's best for the program and for my family."

There are options: Van Dyke could enroll in school over the summer, go through workouts and see where he stands on playing time before making a decision.

He can also decide concretely, one way or another.

"If it looks like I'm going to play by the end of the summer, then I may play. If I'm going to be on the end of the bench, I would probably go," Van Dyke said.

The 6-foot-3 guard can play both spots in the backcourt. A lot will also depend on what kind of depth Utah has heading into next season.
