A West Valley City woman accused of stealing from dozens of elderly victims by asking to use their phones or bathrooms, then making off with their valuables, has been sent to prison.

Kerri Ann Brugger, 52, faced more than 50 felony charges before taking a plea deal earlier this year that saw all but two counts against her dismissed. On Monday, Brugger was sentenced in 3rd District Court to one to 15 years in prison on the second-degree felony burglary charges.

Police and prosecutors say Brugger targeted homes in the Millcreek area over the course of several months last year. The woman reportedly told homeowners she needed to use their restroom or telephone to gain entry, officials said.

Each of the 15 alleged victims was elderly. Earlier this year, Salt Lake County prosecutor Steve Gibbon asked to dismiss three of the cases against Brugger because the alleged victims had died or suffered from dementia and other ailments.
