Soul singer Allen Stone in Utah Tuesday
Play that funky music, white boy.
Soul singer Allen Stone, 25, will bring his tour with special guests Yuna and Tingsek to play music inspired by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and even the swampy grooves of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Stone grew up in a strict religious family in Chewelah, Wash., and didn't listen to secular music until his teens.
Even Halloween was off-limits in his family. "I never trick-or-treated," he said in a phone interview. "They believed Halloween was the devil's holiday."
He remains close to his family, which is one reason Allen, whose mother, Sandy Stone, is a breast cancer survivor, has forged a partnership with The Keep A Breast Foundation. Fifty cents from every ticket sold on the tour will go directly to the nonprofit. His mother has been in remission for three years, Stone said.
