In the first few days of practice, the 6-foot-9 Brazilian looked hesitant.
He's almost done a complete 180 since that first week.
It culminated on Wednesday night, during the Utes' intrasquad scrimmage.
Time and again, Lenz popped out and hit 3-pointers. He dipped inside for baskets and by the time the scrimmae was over, Lenz had himself 17 points.
"You can see Renan getting more comfortable out there," Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "He's finding himself in the offense and he's becoming productive."
Lenz is still a bit weak in the paint, and is still susceptible to getting stripped while making a move. But his shooting over the past few days has been unquestioned.
On Wednesday, he hit a three to for an overtime. He hit from the corner. With Glen Dean penetrating, if Lenz can be consistent with his jumper, at his height, he gives the Utes a dangerous weapon.
