A West Valley City man is charged with beating his wife and stabbing her brother with a steak knife.

The 46-year-old man was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault, third-degree felony criminal trespassing, and six misdemeanors.

While the man was at his wife's house to see their children — the two are getting divorced — she repeatedly told him to leave, but he refused, according to the charges. When he realized she had called the police, he hit her in the face numerous times, the charges add.

He then got a steak knife from the kitchen and left the house. Police suspect that the husband then approached the woman's brother, who had been outside, and attacked him several times with the knife.

Both the woman and her brother were taken to the hospital and treated for their injuries. Police later found the husband at his home.
