Love's rhetorical ruse
Mia Love's campaign line, "I'm a wife and mother, first and foremost," is both indulgent and pandering ("Matheson or Love? It's up to Utah women in November," Tribune, Oct. 14).
I hope all our elected officials have integrity in their private lives, but as a member of Congress, where a vote can determine the outcome of a decision on whether to go to war, the direction of our economy and the domestic values we espouse turned into laws, these things should take precedence over individual family life. After all, our soldiers overseas cannot put their family life first, as they do the bidding of our government.
I hope both women and men see through Love's rhetorical ruse, which disqualifies her for national office.
