3A soccer: Park City easily dispatches Morgan
There were a few jitters here and there, sure. Park City's offense wasn't playing very smoothly at the beginning.
But hosting Morgan in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, the Miners never left a doubt they were the better team, eventually busting out for a 4-0 win.
"I think the other team came in a lot harder in the first half, and we were not as prepared," junior forward Jessica Dancy said. "But we kinda got into the mentality of the game. That was better for us."
Once Park City got going, there was no answer from the Trojans. The Miners played mostly in Morgan's half of the field, as Park City goalkeeper Skye Mooney spent a lot of time watching the action on the other end.
Four players scored for the Miners, including Dancy, Lauren Walker and Maggie Reigelsperger. But it was Rachael Papez's goal in the 17th minute, off of a Reigelsperger set piece kick, that really got things going for the Miners.
"I think that's what we've been all along: a team that has a lot of different players who can score," coach Chip Cook said. "It's not just Jess [Dancy], everyone can finish."
Dancy, however, was the next one to score in the 37th minute, followed by Walker's score just before halftime to give the Miners a 3-0 lead at the break. Although Park City had several other chances, Reigelsperger was the only one who managed to bury hers while also not getting flagged offside.
The Miners next host Dixie on Saturday at home.
Dixie 4, Payson 0 • The Flyers kept Payson mostly out of their half of the field as four different players notched goals.
