Here’s what’s being talked about today in pop culture:

• Who knew Liam Neeson was such a box-office star? The thriller sequel “Taken 2” took the top prize at movie theaters this weekend, with a whopping $50 million. Newcomer “Frankenweenie” failed to juice audiences, bringing in only $11.5 million, for fifth place. [Box Office Mojo]

• This weekend’s online pay-per-view showdown between “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly was a bit of a fizzle. [Entertainment Weekly]

• The Matt Damon-starring drama “Promised Land,” which dramatizes the environmental hazards of extracting natural gas through hydraulic fracturing (or “fracking”), doesn’t come out until December — but the energy industry is already gearing up for a public-relations fight. [The Hollywood Reporter]
