Sandy police were looking for a knife-wielding man who attacked a woman after she got off a TRAX light rail train early Thursday morning.
Police Sgt. John Arnold said that just after midnight, the 25-year-old woman was walking from the Civic Center TRAX station at the 115 E. Sego Lily Drive station toward State Street when she passed an empty field. Her assailant — described as a white man in his 30s with shaggy blond hair, wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants — apparently came from that field.
“He came up behind her and put her in a bear hug and they fell to the ground and wrestled. He pulled a hunting knife and told her to calm down, but she had a soda pop bottle in her pocket and used it to hit him on the head a couple times,” Arnold said.
The woman got loose, on her feet and managed to call 911 on her cellphone. While she was on the phone with a public safety dispatcher, her assailant again tackled her, stole her phone — and one of her shoes — and ran down the street into the darkness.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 911, or the Sandy Police Department at 801-840-4000.
