UHP: I-80 crash caused by texting driver

A Salt Lake County woman who was allegedly texting while driving slammed her car into the back of a semi truck that was pulled over on Interstate 80.

At about 6 p.m. Saturday, the semi truck's driver pulled off to the right of the I-80 westbound lanes about 25 miles east of the Utah-Nevada border. Utah Highway Patrol reports that a 27-year-old woman driving a passenger car hit the truck from behind.

The car was totaled and the woman was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

The woman was texting while driving just before the collision, according to UHP spokesperson Susan Thomas. .

The woman was later cited with texting while driving and failure to operate in one lane of traffic, Thomas said. The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the crash.
