Salt Lake City cops look for couple in motel guard stabbing
Police were on the lookout for a man and woman who sped away in a van after stabbing a security guard at a west Salt Lake City motel.
Salt Lake City police Detective Mike Hamideh said the incident occurred about 4:40 a.m. Monday, just outside the Sleep Cheap Motel, 1999 W. North Temple. The 46-year-old guard had approached a gray, full-size van with a man and woman inside to advise them that only registered guests are allowed to park in the motel's lot.
While the guard was talking with the driver, described as a 5-foot-8 black male in his mid-30s, the female passenger, a heavy-set white woman about 45 years old, allegedly exited the vehicle, came up behind the guard and stabbed him in the back.
The woman jumped back inside the van, which then left the lot.
Hamideh said the guard was taken to the hospital, but the knife wound proved minor. The guard was listed in satisfactory condition.
