Meri Brown, one of four women married to former Lehi polygamist Kody Brown and star of the reality show “Sister Wives,” is due to make an appearance at fund raiser for a group that helps people leaving polygamy.

Holding Out Help executive director Tonia Tewell said Brown is planning to attend a 5K fundraiser run on Sept. 22 at the Draper City Park. Several people who have recently left the Warren Jeffs-led Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are set to be there too.

If you’re in the area and would like to run, registration is $20. For more info, click here: http://holdingouthelp.org/5k/

Holding Out Help is a small nonprofit group that has been providing aid to many people leaving or being kicked out of the FLDS amid the turmoil of the last couple years.

Right now, the group’s 20 host homes are almost “completely packed,” Tewell said Friday.

The group’s aim is to help folks leaving any polygamous group get housing, food stamps to GEDs — whatever gets them on their feet.

They’re hoping to raise about $5,000 next Saturday.
