Should the twin towns civil rights suit move to Utah?
Attorneys for Hildale and Colorado City, the polygamous towns dominated by followers of Warren Jeffs, want the federal civil rights suit filed against them moved to Utah.
They argue that it's a more convenient venue the federal court in Arizona is 400 miles away from Colorado City.
But I can't help but notice that Utah federal court is the place where FLDS lawyers won a major turning point decision in their favor in the United Effort Plan trust case (story here).
Arizona, meanwhile, is the state whose attorney general tried to abolish the police department in the twin towns, and where a county attorney is going after the Colorado City town manager and fire chief.
On the other hand, Utah did convict Jeffs to begin with back in 2007, while Arizona dropped similar charges.
But then the Utah Supreme Court overturned Jeffs' conviction in 2010 only to ship him off to face child rape charges in Texas.
Personally, if it is moved to Utah, it's closer for me to coverâ¦
