It's the kickoff of the NFL season, a bit earlier than usual.

Tonight's game (6:30 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5) features the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

And why Wednesday instead of Thursday, as has been the case in recent years? Because the Democratic National Convention ends on Thursday with President Barack Obaman's speech.

Speaking of the Democratic National Convention (8 p.m., ), tonight's big event is a speech by former President Bill Clinton.

Elsewhere on TV ...

Big Brother (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): The veto competition.

So You Think You Can Dance (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13): The remaining six contestants perform; two more dancers are eliminated.

Oh Sit! (7 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Daredevils compete.

Royal Pains (10 p.m., USA): Divya's new boyfriend turns to Jeremiah for help.

The Soul Man (11 p.m., TV Land): Barton's ex-wife Della arrives in St. Louis. (Season finale)

The Exes (11:30 p.m., TV Land): Eden goes into labor. (Season finale)
