A 13-year-old boy was in critical condition Saturday after he was struck by lightning while hunting in Weber County.
The teen and a 25-year-old relative were hunting doves on a trail near 3500 West and 4000 North in Plain City when a thunderstorm blew in Saturday afternoon. The two made a run for the trail parking lot when they were struck by lightning, said Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther.
A Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officer who was in the parking lot saw it happen. He radioed for help and tried to resuscitate the teen, who was in full cardiac arrest.
Paramedics arrived and managed to get a pulse before the teen was taken in an ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden. A medical helicopter was not immediately available because of the storm.
The teen was later flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center.
The teen’s relative had some injuries but was going to be all right, Lowther said.
