Apparently, there’s not much love for the Oogieloves.
The preschool-friendly characters -- brainchild of producer Ken Viselman, who is credited with bringing the Teletubbies to America -- star in “The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure,” which debuted in 2,160 theaters on Wednesday.
Not that anyone noticed. The movie-industry site Box Office Mojo reports that Wednesday receipts for the Oogieloves’ movie were $102,564, for a per-screen average of $47.
The movie “could go down with one of the worst openings of all time,” wrote Movieline.
The dismal numbers come in spite of Viselman’s charm offensive, in which he showed the movie to “mommy bloggers” around the nation, hoping they would stir up interest in the kiddie film. A dozen Utah “mommy bloggers” screened the movie earlier this month at the Megaplex 17 at Jordan Commons in Sandy.
