Last time comedian Margaret Cho performed in Utah, plenty of people who were “super clean” and had “super clean teeth” told her they went to Korea on their missions. Well, she was born in San Francisco, but she still appreciated the niceties she encountered in Utah, Cho said in an interview. This time, the openly bisexual 43-year-old is bringing her one-woman show called “Mother,” where she will talk about the lovable eccentricities of her mother (a tried-and-true favorite from her stand-up routines) as well as talk about motherhood in general. Cho is not a mother herself, but said she feels very “maternal” in the stand-up community. On Sept. 23, she will bring her mother and brother to the Emmy Awards, where she is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for playing, of all people, the late Kim Jong-Il on “30 Rock.” “I am of North Korean and South Korean descent, and it’s a painful part of my family history,” Cho said. “My goal is to win the Emmy and unite the countries.”
