Smith’s Pharmacies has forged a partnership with the state of Utah’s drug-awareness campaign to promote the safe use, storage and disposal of prescription medications.

In conjunction with the Department of Health’s UseOnlyAsDirected campaign, all Smith’s Pharmacies in Utah for the next six months will spotlight oversized counter wraps that carry safety messages aimed at preventing accidental overdoses.

Messages also will be printed on pharmacy bags. Tucked inside the bags will be stickers with space to write the date the prescription should be discarded. On the back of the sticker will be information about disposing unused medications.

In 2008, the Department of Health launched the UseOnlyAsDirected campaign to reduce the number of unintentional overdose deaths.
