The Taylorsville City Council on Wednesday voted 3-2 to approve a fiscal 2013 budget that includes a 15 percent tax increase.

The increase and new growth are expected to bring in $4,243,848 in property tax revenue, about $607,000 more than in fiscal 2012. The bump raises the city portion of property tax on a $172,000 residence by $26.39 annually, from $181.92 to $208.31, and on a $172,000 business by $47.98 annually, from $330.76 to $378.74.

Council members voted 3-2 in June to approve a tentative budget that included the tax hike. They earmarked approximately $600,000 for maintenance of street-scapes and to build a safety wall along 4100 South from Redwood Road to 1300 West, where cars have veered off the street into backyards.
