It’s no surprise that the U.S. men’s basketball team made it to the quarterfinals. The Americans have medaled all 16 times they had the opportunity, and 13 of those medals were gold.
In London, Team USA has one relatively close call in the preliminaries — a 99-94 win over Lithuania — but the average margin of victory in the 5-0 run has been 38 points.
Their opponents in the quarterfinal (3:15-5 p.m., NBCSN/NBA basketball channel), Australia, went 3-2 in the prelims.
