Taylorsville • The City Council on Wednesday night approved Tracy C. Wyant as chief of the Taylorsville Unified Police Department Precinct.

After going through a resume screening, hiring committee meeting and an interview with Mayor Russ Wall and the city administrator, the mayor selected Wyant to be presented before the council for consent.

Wall said Wyant is "uniquely qualified" for the position. Wyant has a combined 15 years of service working in federal, state and local law enforcement.

Wyant currently manages over 30 law enforcement officers and sergeants throughout Taylorsville.

When the Taylorsville Police Department was absorbed into the Unified Police Department, he served as the lieutenant and division commander of patrol operations.

Wyant said his new position will not be substantially different from his former position, but he looks forward to taking on the new responsibility.

"I really want to help the precinct move toward being more efficient and more proactive," Wyant said.
