Gladys Knight will join the ranks of celebrity judges on a TV singing competitions this fall - on a network most of you have never heard of.
Knight will be the lead judge on "Apollo Live," which will tape at New York's iconic Apollo Theater. The show promises to put "a new spin on the venue's Amateur Night showcase."
It will air on Centric, a cable/satellite sister channel to BET. It used to be called BET Jazz and BET J, but was rebranded in 2009.
Centric was in about 28 million homes (out of 114.7 million total) until this week, when DirecTV dropped all of Viacom's cable networks in a contract dispute. That move cost Centric half its distribution.
Knight will judge "Apollo Live" along with Doug E. Fresh and Michael Bivins. Comedian Tony Rock will host.
There aren't a lot of details, except that the winning singer will take home a cash prize.
Jamie Foxx, Marcus King and Don Weiner are the executive producers.
