Civics Central: Downtown hotel study in SLC, speed limits in Bluffdale

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Salt Lake County Council • Will consider retaining a consultant to study financing for a convention-center hotel in downtown Salt Lake City and real estate matters involving proposed new buildings for the Salt Lake Valley Health Department and the District Attorney's Office; Tuesday, June 26, 1 p.m., Room 2003, North Building, County Government Center, 2001 S. State. Formal decisions involving those matters are expected at the council's 4 p.m. meeting in the first floor council chambers.

West Valley City Council • Will hold a public hearing on a proposal to reduce the setbacks required for basement access ways and window wells; Tuesday, June 26, 6:30 p.m., 3600 S. Constitution Blvd. (2700 West), West Valley City. View the West Valley City agenda.

Bluffdale City Council • Holds a public hearing on speed limits for collector and residential streets throughout the city; Tuesday, June 26, 8 p.m., Bluffdale City Fire Station, 14350 S. 2200 West.

Alpine City Council • Considers restricting use of fireworks in certain areas; Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m., City Hall, 20 N. Main, Alpine.

Bountiful City Council » Will consider commercial site expansion for a parking lot for Kentson Car Company at 2450 S. 500 West and preliminary subdivision plat for Stone Creek Villas at 600 N. 400 East; Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m., 790 S. 100 East, Bountiful. View the Bountiful agenda.

Clearfield City Council » Will consider approval of an interlocal agreement with Layton, Clinton and Syracuse cities for participation on a metro SWAT team; Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m., 55 S. State St., Clearfield. View the Clearfield agenda.

Clinton City Council » Will award a bid for 2012-13 street projects and consider approval of an interlocal agreement with Layton, Clearfield and Syracuse cities for participation on a metro SWAT team; Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m., 2267 N. 1500 West, Clinton. View the Clinton agenda.

Cottonwood Heights City Council • Will consider ordinance on unauthorized discharge of fireworks on public property; Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m., 1265 E. Fort Union Blvd., Suite 300. Draper City Council • Discusses a proposed public safety facility and appoints a temporary judge for the justice court; Tuesday, June 26, 5:30 p.m., 1020 E. Pioneer Road, Draper.
