Steve Griffin | The Salt Lake Tribune Before the Westates acquisition, the Megaplex chain operated 84 screens at six locations in Salt Lake City, Sandy, South Jordan, Ogden, Lehi and Centerville (above).

Tickets for the first screenings of "The Dark Knight Rises" went on sale Monday morning.

For some midnight screenings at Utah's Megaplex Theatres, they sold out just as quickly.

Tickets were sold out in 20 minutes for all of Megaplex's IMAX theaters for the first midnight screenings, according to Megaplex spokesman Jeff Whipple.

Somewhere between 700 and 1,200 customers were trying to buy tickets online at 10 a.m. Monday, Whipple said.

Megaplex will add more screenings for the July 20 opening, including 3 a.m. IMAX screenings for the really hardcore Batman fans.

"The Dark Knight Rises," the third in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy starring Christian Bale, is perhaps the most-anticipated movie of the summer - and is gunning to rival "The Avengers" at the box office.
