Utah Transit Authority officials said TRAX commuters endured delays Tuesday morning after a car ran a red light and collided with a train in downtown Salt Lake City.
UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said the crash occurred about 6:50 a.m. near 800 South 200 West when a southbound TRAX train and a car collided.
Salt Lake police Lt. Melody Gray said the man driving the car was eastbound on 800 South when he ran a red light and struck with the southbound train.
The man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Gray said. She said he would be cited for running a red light.
Tuesday’s incident marked the 16th crash this year involving TRAX trains — 11 of which involved motorists who have struck the trains, Carpenter said.
