Taylorsville • No hits through four innings with its season hanging in the balance?

Bring it.

That was Taylorsville's approach Wednesday night as it rallied for five runs in the sixth inning and held off a late Bingham rally to defeat the Miners 5-4 in an elimination game in the Class 5A state baseball playoffs at SLCC's Cate Field.

Senior shortstop Dallas Carroll hit a two-run home run to erase a 1-0 deficit against Miners starter Brady Lail, who was perfect through four innings and had allowed just one hit through five.

"I don't remember that last time we beat [Bingham]," Carroll said. "Not since I was a freshman. So it feels good to beat them in this type of situation."

Taylorsville (22-6) scored three more runs, helped by two Bingham errors. The Warriors, who defeated Jordan 11-1 earlier in the day, advanced to play either Alta or American Fork in an elimination game today at 1:30 p.m.

"At no point did we think we were going to skate through this," Taylorsville coach Jake Brown said. "But we were ready for that challenge. We wanted the ball tonight, and we were ready for that situation."

Warriors starter Hayden Heugly got into trouble in the top of the seventh as Bingham, the defending 5A champion, rallied.

The Miners (24-6) put the tying run on third with two outs, but center fielder and cleanup hitter Connor Williams struck out against reliever Jake Greenberg to end it.

"It was a fun game," Heugly said. "The whole tournament, our team has had a lot of confidence. We feel like we are pretty good and can beat anyone, so we knew eventually we'd break through. We were just waiting for it to happen."

Brennon Lund, Max Dimick and Williams each had two hits for Bingham, which defeated Syracuse 9-4 in an elimination game earlier in the day. —
